Located in the heart of Chelsea, QC, M & R Resto is a delightful café renowned for its unpretentious take on classic Québécois cuisine, specifically its standout dish: poutine. Just a stone's throw from the stunning landscapes of the area, this cozy little spot serves as both a casual dining hotspot and a charming corner store, making it a true gem for locals and visitors alike.

Step inside and you'll feel an inviting atmosphere that has remained refreshingly unchanged over the years. With only a handful of tables, the space exudes warmth and a sense of nostalgia, perfect for those looking to enjoy a meal in a laid-back setting. The simplicity of the décor complements the straightforward menu, allowing the food to take center stage.

The star of the show is, without a doubt, their poutine. As one eager customer, Ben Armstrong, noted, “Poutine is excellent. Very salty gravy. Lots of cheese curds and gravy. Fries were fresh and crispy!” Experience each bite as the perfectly crispy fries are enveloped in rich gravy, topped with generous amounts of squeaky cheese curds that provide a delightful texture contrast. Hector Tellez captures this sentiment, stating, “If you want simple and unpretentious food, this is the place.”

Though the café's service might not be the most effusive, patrons rave about the quick and friendly service provided at M & R Resto. The efficiency of the staff allows you to enjoy your meal without unnecessary delays, making it an ideal stop for a quick bite post-adventure. Especially appealing to skiers and explorers passing through, this café provides a reliable and satisfying fast food option during their outdoor escapades.

While they primarily focus on poutine, M & R Resto also offers breakfast items, making it a versatile option for morning or late-night cravings—though some customers wish for extended hours to indulge after a day of winter sports. Kerri-Anne Whittaker shares the desire for later hours, highlighting how the local community would embrace a more accommodating schedule.

Whether you're a local resident or just passing through Chelsea, M & R Resto is a must-visit for a classic, flavorful experience of Quebecois cuisine. Indulge in a plate of poutine, engage with the friendly staff, and experience the charm of a café that values simplicity and quality.

Don't forget to take a moment to browse the little store next door—supporting small local businesses is always a rewarding endeavor. With friendly staff and an array of locally sourced products, your visit to M & R Resto can become a wholesome experience, nourishing both your body and your community spirit.

Good for fast food, poutine is awesome. Wish their hours were a little later as we are rarely in Chelsea during the day and more as we pass through for supper or after skiing, but they aren’t open very late.

We had heard poutine was good here. The people we heard from were right. Don't judge a book from its cover. Great prices and amazing poutine.

If you want simple and unpretentious food, this is the place. Can’t go wrong with a poutine (perfect amount of gravy). They even offer breakfast. The place is small, only a few tables to sit and eat but the atmosphere is nice, hasn’t changed in years. Although service is not the most welcoming, they’re nice and fast. Support small local businesses. Bonus points since they have a little store next door with a huge selection of craft beer.

You will get a fairly classic québécois casse-croute expérience here. Some may find that standoffish. Cash only, but you can go to the cashier on the convenience store side to use their machine and get what you need to pay. I enjoyed my "poutine-moyenne" although I have had more generous portions elsewhere for the price. It was still good enough that it won't be our last visit.
